New Volunteer Opportunities

We are planning our next Basic Peer CounselingTraining class this fall.

It will be held on Thursday mornings from 10am-12:30pm, August 16-November 8. There is also the possibility of an evening class if there is enough interest. We are currently in the process of accepting applications for consideration to join this training class. If you or someone you know would like to fill out an application, please contact our Center Director.

                                               2018 Basic Peer Counseling Training Details and Schedule

Our 14 session training is the first step in becoming equipped to serve as a peer counseling volunteer.
You may miss two sessions with scheduled makeup DVD sessions.
Cost:  $45.00 (covers training manual)

Making Peace with Your Past, a 12 week study by Tim Sledge, is required prior to or after completing Basic Peer Counseling Training.

Aug. 16    Personality Temperaments – understanding effects on counseling and healing
Aug. 23    Counseling Qualifications, Roles and Techniques – for effective counseling
Aug. 30    Quality Control – confidentiality and knowing your limits
Sept. 6    Communication I, Speaking and Listening – levels and techniques of communication
Sept. 13    Communication II, Application – listening and speaking skills
Sept. 20    Healing Process I, Introduction – personal needs and past issues
Sept. 27    Healing Process II, Steps and Stages – woundedness and the healing journey
Oct. 4    Forgiveness – what it is and is not, connection to healing
Oct. 11    Unhealthy Relationships – causes, symptoms and recovery
Oct. 18    Setting Personal Boundaries – factors that enhance/hinder relationships
Oct. 25    Distorted Image of God – influences and steps to spiritual healing
Nov. 1    Thursday – 9a – 3pm– 2 sessions, bring a bag lunch
        Group Facilitating – concepts for leading support groups

        Applications Workshop – role-playing and record keeping
Nov. 8    Challenge to Personal Accountability – call to a deeper relationship with God
